Syntaxin Ltd is a newly formed biopharmaceutical company focusing on discovery and development of new medicines from bacterial toxins to treat chronic diseases.
The Company was created in 2005 to develop complex proteins that can be used as biopharmaceuticals to treat neurological, respiratory and endocrine disease.
The Company’s product pipeline is based on exploiting the potent pharmacological properties of some microbial proteins, notably exotoxins.
£16m series B fundraising round was completed in October 2007 and was led by new investors SR One and LSP. Additional funding came from Syntaxin’s existing shareholders, Abingworth. New investors Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation and Quest for Growth also participated in the £16m financing. Speaker profile
Patrick Doyle, Chief Executive Officer
Patrick joined Syntaxin in August 2006 as CEO. He brings 17 years of broad pharmaceutical experience to Syntaxin, most recently serving as Chief Corporate Development Officer for Metabolex, San Francisco. Since early 2005 he led Metabolex' corporate development activities, which resulted in a global partnership with Johnson & Johnson. Prior to that Patrick was Roche's Vice President, Global Head of Preclinical Partnering. Patrick received his BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology and studied for a PhD at the University of Sunderland in England. He also completed post-graduate studies at the University of Geneva, where he specialized in CNS function.
