EyeSense AG is a spin-off company from CIBA Vision (the Novartis eye care company). Business goal is to develop and commercialize an ophthalmic self-diagnostic device for blood glucose monitoring. The company is exploiting the unique environment of the eye in conjunction with a specific and accurate sensor technology for pioneering a convenient, blood- and pain-free new blood glucose monitoring device. This breakthrough concept allows the diabetic as often as he wants to gain information on his blood glucose level over the day only by means of a small handheld photometer.

Status: Proof of Concept achieved in August 2007

Peter Herbrechtsmeier, Ph.D., CEO

Peter Herbrechtsmeier holds a Ph.D. in physical chemistry. He looks back at more than 20 successful years as general manager in the high-tech industry. His core competences lie in the sector of medical devices, where he has been in charge of developing new business fields for consumer health.

He developed, e.g. the daily disposable contact lens business for CIBA Vision, which for years has been and still is the biggest business for CIBA Vision. As Vice-President he managed global R&D at CIBA Vision’s US-Headquarter in Atlanta, USA; following he was promoted to CEO of a newly founded strategic business unit for tear-film diagnostics in 2003.

Additionally he served as member of the global Novartis Technology Advisory Board.
