OctoPlus is a product-oriented drug delivery company focused on the development of improved pharmaceutical products with less side effects, increased patient compliance and better efficacy. Our pipeline consists of 5 products in preclinical and clinical development. Our lead product is Locteron™, a sustained-release formulation of interferon alfa for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C, partnered with Biolex Therapeutics. Locteron is currently in clinical Phase II studies, for which positive results were published in November 2007. Furthermore, our pipeline comprises a product for treatment of chronic middle ear infection that is in Phase II, a preclinical GLP-1 agonist product for the treatment of diabetes type II, and two preclinical single-shot vaccines. Dr. J.J.M. Holthuis, CEO

Joost J.M. Holthuis is presently CEO of OctoPlus, a public company (EuroNext: OCTO) which he founded together with Prof. Dr. Daan Crommelin in 1995. OctoPlus is a biopharmaceutical company developing innovative products on the base of its proprietary drug delivery technology.

He graduated from the University of Leiden with a Master’s Degree in Pharmacy in 1980.  After obtaining his Ph.D. in 1985 and working as an Assistant Professor at Utrecht University, he became the Director of Analytical Laboratories and Product Development at the European subsidiary of Chiron Corporation in 1988.

He is also co-chairman of the board of the Netherlands Biotechnology Association (NIABA), chairman of the BioPartner Center Foundation in Leiden, member of the board of the foundation “Stichting Top Institute Pharma” as well as a member of the board of the “Adviescommissie Innovatiesubsidie Samenwerkingsprojecten” of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs.  Mr. Holthuis is also a member of the Netherlands Academy of Technology and Innovation. During his academic career, Mr. Holthuis published more than 50 peer reviewed scientific publications.
