ProFibrix is a biotech company that was founded in January 2004 and is located in the Bioscience Park, Leiden, The Netherlands. The company aims to create, develop and market new and innovative healthcare products, based on the unique properties of human fibrinogen.

ProFibrix is currently focussing on clinical development of its lead product, FibrocapsTM, a dry powder topical haemostat, for the treatment of severe haemorrhage that occurs during surgery and in trauma situations. ProFibrix will also develop other high added value products based on fibrinogen for the haemostasis and tissue repair market.

Jaap Koopman, CEO

Jaap Koopman, PhD (48) is founder and CEO of ProFibrix. He has over 25 years experience in bio-medical research and has received several national and international scientific awards. He managed R & D projects and established an extensive network within the fibrinogen research community and related areas. Dr. Koopman is a member of the Counsel of the International Fibrinogen Society and is co-chairman of the ISTH sub-committee for fibrinogen standardization. He was employed at Pharming, Leiden, The Netherlands, as scientific director and project manager. In January 2004, he founded ProFibrix and led the company through a seed financing round in 2005 and the first round of venture funding in February 2007.
